Upperton Receives SPARK
Award from Powdermatrix
1st October 2005
Upperton has successfully
completed a research programme funded by Powdermatrix,
a member of the UK Faraday Partnership. The research
award was part of the SPARK programme (Strategic Projects
to Access Research and Knowledge).
The aim of the project
was to characterise nanoparticles made from recombinant
human albumin (rHA), a unique raw material that is produced
by genetically-modified yeast by partner company, Delta
Biotechnology.
During the study, Upperton
worked with specialists from Loughborough University
and the Department of Academic Medical Physics, Nottingham.
The SPARK Award project
confirmed the most effective techniques to determine
the particle size and distribution both pre and post
formulation. Results obtained from the analysis confirmed
that Upperton can make rHA nanoparticles of the correct
size for lymphoscintigraphy.
