Upperton Unveils New Particle Sizing Capability

5th April 2007

Nottingham, UK -- Upperton is pleased to announce that it has recently acquired a Sympatec dry powder laser diffraction system. The system has been installed at Upperton’s Nottingham laboratories alongside its existing Coulter Mastersizer and Coulter LS230 particle sizers.

The Sympatec HELOS laser diffraction technology offers the highest quality of particle sizing data for both wet and dry particle dispersions, with a capability of measuring from the sub-micron to the millimetre range.

The recently-installed system can disperse and measure particle size in 3 ways utilising:

(i) a RODOS T4.1 for aerodispersion of fine powders
(ii) wet dispersions in a re-circulating solvent system
(iii) a GRADIS for low energy dispersion of coarse or granular materials.

Upperton anticipates that it will utilise the new Sympatec dry powder laser diffraction system in at least 2 applications:

  • providing particle sizing on customers' products generated from our unique spray drying service
  • a contract analysis service for clients who need particle sizing data periodically but cannot justify the purchase of their own equipment
