Producing precisely-sized nanoparticles from proteins

Upperton’s next generation technology for producing nano-sized particles from peptides and proteins (including monoclonal antibodies and enzymes) and other biomolecules with suitable reactive side chains offer unique competitive advantages

Controlled Size Distribution (Recombinant Albumin)

Key attributes:

  • Size can be precisely controlled from 10nm to 120nm
  • Size allows sterile filtration through 0.2µm filter
  • Proteins in particles are not denaturated; protein specific active membrane and barrier crossing properties are retained
  • Particles are very stable in suspension and amenable to freeze-drying

Simplicity of manufacturing:

The rP-nanoTM production process is very robust, simple and reproducible. Currently working at gram scale, we envisage a seamless transition to commercial production without loss of size-control.

Loading of nanoparticles:

Our nanoparticles have already been loaded with a wide range of pharmaceutical, biotechnology and diagnostic agents. This can be achieved using a number of approaches that include chemical conjugation or simple protein binding/adsorption.

For proof of concept we have generated nanobiomolecules from:

  • Recombinant human albumin (rHA)
  • Recombinant transferrin
  • Apo A1 (apolipoprotein A-1)
  • Monoclonal Antibodies
