In a further extension of the albumin delivery technology, drug-loaded albumin molecules and albumin nanoparticles can now be targeted to specific sites in the body by attaching the loaded carriers to monoclonal antibodies.
Upperton’s patented rP-targetTM technology can be used to chemically link monoclonal antibodies to drug-loaded carriers. The chemistry is undertaken in such a way that several albumin molecules can be linked to a single monoclonal antibody without damaging the sensitive binding site. Alternatively, several monoclonal antibodies can be chemically linked to the surface of a single albumin nanoparticle.
As a result, many drug molecules can be targeted to a site of delivery using a single monoclonal antibody. The chemistry involved is summarised below:
Stage 1: chemically attaching the active molecule to the albumin carrier

Stage 2: albumin-drug conjugate linked to monoclonal antibody using patented rP-targetTM technology
