CONTRACT SPRAY DRYING

Spray drying is an important formulation technology for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and personal care industries. It is suitable for use with a wide range of materials, including drugs, proteins and peptides, polymers, lipids and fatty acids. Its applications include formulation, targeted delivery and microencapsulation of active ingredients to enhance their performance. Actives can be spray dried alone or co-spray dried with excipients in order to improve their stability or alter their release kinetics. Spray drying can also be used to improve solubility and to form particles suitable for pulmonary drug delivery.

The growth in specialized applications for spray drying is driven by a number of advantages over competing technologies such as freeze drying and micronisation. These advantages include lower processing costs, ease and speed of scale-up, and an ability to transform solutions into highly defined particles in seconds.

Upperton offers a unique service to companies seeking to evaluate spray drying for their product formulation.

This allows customers to assess the potential of spray drying without the need for capital investment, and, coupled with Upperton's unrivalled experience, offers a simple, efficient and cost effective route to the successful development of spray-dried products.
