Spray drying is an important formulation technology in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Applications for spray drying include enhancing solubility/bioavailability, micro-encapsulation and targeted delivery. Active drugs can be spray dried alone or co-spray dried with excipients in order to improve their stability or alter their release kinetics.

Upperton has significant expertise in the use and manipulation of spray drying and in the surface modification of the spray dried particles, enabling the creation of particles with the required characteristics.
