Scientist Roles: Analytical Scientist / Project Scientist (multiple positions)
Upperton Pharma Solutions is a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) that specialises in the development and production of novel pharmaceutical drug products for use in clinical trials. Our clients come from across the globe, seeking to utilise our specialist knowledge and experience in the development of a wide range of challenging pharmaceutical formulations that are used to treat indications as diverse as oncology, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
The Upperton laboratories and manufacturing plant are situated on the Science Park, adjacent to the University of Nottingham, and since obtaining an MHRA clinical trials manufacturing licence in 2019 we have experienced rapid, continuous growth across the whole business to continually satisfy our growing, international customer base.
As part of this expansion programme Upperton is now looking to recruit highly motivated individuals to join our scientific team. In all roles, scientists work on client projects ensuring high-quality of activities to meet project goals and milestones.
For all roles, essential criteria are:
- Be educated to degree level or higher in a related scientific/technical discipline
- Have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to effectively contribute within a team environment and work on own initiative.
- Experience within a laboratory or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
- Understanding of safe working practices and risk assessment within laboratory or manufacturing settings
- Excellent decision making, organisation and planning skills
Analytical (QC) Scientist
Working within the Analytical Services team, you will be responsible for performing tests on samples in accordance with defined analytical methods, standard operating procedures and good manufacturing practice (GMP), as part of Quality Control testing and to support R&D projects. A range of analytical techniques are employed, including HPLC, FTIR, pH, Karl-Fischer, dissolution, polarimetry and UV spectrometry.
Good attention to detail, a meticulous approach to laboratory work, sound technical knowledge and interest in troubleshooting analytical challenges are important qualities for the role of Analytical Scientist.
Previous experience in GMP lab environment is desirable but not essential.
Working as part of the Pharmaceutical Sciences team, you will be directly involved in undertaking practical and written work to achieve project goals and milestones. R&D projects span from early feasibility to formulation development, with techniques including spray drying, granulation and tableting, and characterisation of solutions, powders and dosage forms. The Pharmaceutical Sciences team is focussed on delivery of high-quality scientific research for clients, with the team leading on formulation development and project reporting.
The role will suit an individual with strong problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communication and superior technical knowledge of some aspects of pharmaceutical development.
Education to PhD level, or previous solid dosage formulation development experience is desirable.
